The following list includes the top 5 best selling 4-person tents as of June 2014.

5. Wenzel Pine Ridge 10-by-8 Foot Four-to-Five-Person 2-Room Dome Tent (ad)

Description: This 10′ x 8′ Dome style tent from Wenzel features a roof covering Rainfly to keep the rain away, weather coated polyester material, and has two doors and a window. The tallest point is 5 feet tall and the tent weighs almost 12 pounds. It sets up with two fiberglass poles and stakes. There also is a room divider.

Review: This is a very solid four person tent. You should be able to set it up in under 10 minutes. It seems to be solid construction, although the material does seem a little thin and the poles are fiberglass, not aluminum. If you are using air mattresses, you won’t be able to use a queen mattress and the room divider together. The rainfly only covers the roof, so if it is raining hard or diagonally, the side of the tent will get hit. The best part about this tent is the price, it is quite a bit cheaper than very similar high quality tents.

4. Coleman 4-Person Evanston Tent with Screened Porch Canopy 9 Ft x 7 Ft Fits Queen Bed (ad)

Description: This 9′ x 7′ x 5′ tent can be setup in 15 minutes according to the manufacturer, Coleman, which is one of the oldest and most trusted brands in camping gear/equipment. It uses poles and stakes. One extra feature to this tent is a front, screen-in porch area. The tent weighs almost 18 pounds. The tent comes with a rainfly.

Review: The bad thing about this tent is it is a little heavier and more complicated to setup than most 4 person tents. However, that extra setup time is really the cost you pay for the extra space and the added front screened-in porch. This is really just another great tent from Coleman, although it wouldn’t be good for hikers as it weighs so much. For a small family that is going to be driving to their campsite, or for kids in the backyard, this would be perfect. If you are looking at this for two people who want to have a queen sized mattress inside, I think it is a little big.

3. Slumberjack 4 Person Trail Tent (ad)

Description: This tent from Slumberjack is 98″ x 83″ x 59″, which is roughly 8′ x 7′ x 5′. It comes with a full coverage rain fly. When packed, it weighs 11 pounds. It sets up with two fiberglass poles and stakes. There are two doors, windows, storage compartments, and noiseless zippers.

Review: A wonderful four person tent that would be great for hikers, backpackers, or people camping in the wild, provided you take turns carrying it (it folds up to be 24″ x 8″, which is manageable for a 4 person). This tent is easy to setup and easy to take apart and fold up. It definitely will keep you dry in a rainstorm. Basically everything about this tent looks quality.

2. Coleman Hooligan 4 Tent (ad)

Description: This 9′ x 7′ x 5′ foot tent from Coleman comes with a rainfly that has a porch or vestibule area. It sets up easily with a 2 pole system and can be put up in 10 to 15 minutes. When packed, it weighs 11.6 pounds and is 24″ x 7″ x 7″.

Review: This tent is another solid edition from Coleman, one of the most trusted camping brands. The tent feels very high quality, yet is very reasonably priced (at the time of review, it is half the price of our #1 tent). Much like the last tent listed, this one would be manageable for hikers or backpackers that require a 4 person tent. The tent does feel a little basic as there really aren’t any added features other than the vestibule area of the rainfly, but this is a high quality tent that will last a while.

1. Kelty Salida 4 Backpacking 4 Person Tent (ad)

Description: The tent is 98″ x 80″ x 58″ (roughly 8′ x 6.5′ x 5′), comes with a full coverage rainfly, and has a front storage area. The tent sets up with 2 aluminum poles, clips, and stakes. It also folds up nice and tight, into an 8″ x 26″ cylinder that only weighs 6 pounds, which is extremely light for a 4 person tent.

Review: This tent is #1 on our list because it is built of better quality materials like nylon and has aluminum poles as opposed to fiberglass ones. It also is extremely lightweight for a 4 person tent at just 6 pounds (most are around 10-15 pounds).  Of course, you pay a premium to get the best tent available, but for many people that will be well worth it.
