Today we’re going to take a look at the Suisse Sport 6 person mammoth dome tent 12′ x 10′ with divider (ad). We’ve liked Suisse Sport gear in the past, especially considering their low prices, so let’s look at how the Mammoth Dome scores.
The Suisse Sport 6 person mammoth dome tent 12′ x 10′ with divider (ad) is made from polyethylene. This is a 2 room dome tent that can sleep up to 4 people. A removable divider splits the tent into two separate rooms, so you can have some privacy. There is a double D door that has a storm mesh cover for easy entry and exiting from the tent. The 3 mesh zippered windows let you look out and there is a mesh ceiling.
The tent measures 12 x 6 x 10 feet, which basically means this tent is huge! Six feet is pretty tall for a tent meant for camping and honestly is excessive. The tent also weighs in at 17 pounds, making it extremely heavy and you basically cannot hike or backpack with this thing.
From the manufacturer:
Enjoy a little extra privacy when camping with friends with the Suisse Sport Mammoth two-room dome tent. Designed to sleep up to four people, the tent includes a removable divider that splits the tent in two. As a result, you can wall off other campers when changing clothes or sleeping, or you can remove the divider to create a single large room. The Mammoth also includes a zippered double D door with a storm mesh cover for easy entry and exit, along with a full-size rainfly with taped seams to keep you dry on moist evenings. And ventilation is always a concern in warm, muggy climates, which is why the Mammoth includes three no-see-um screen mesh windows and a mesh ceiling. Other features include two mesh interior pockets for storage, reinforced fiberglass poles for easy setup, and compliance with CPAI-84 fire requirements. The Mammoth tent measures 12 by 6 by 10 feet (W x H x D) and weighs roughly 17 pounds.
If you’re looking a tent that holds four people in two separate rooms, this might be a great option, provided you aren’t hiking.
For a four person tent, this one is pretty cheap yet of decent construction. It should last a while provided you don’t beat the heck out of it.
The bottom of the tent has a bathtub design that goes up six inches on the sides for better water proofing.
Surprisingly easy to setup and pack.
At 17 pounds, this is a very heavy tent. It will be difficult to move around, you basically have to be car camping and only have to carry it a little ways.
The material is maybe not as thick as some premium materials, so be careful not to rip it. Stake the tent on a tarp or something to avoid the ground tearing the bottom.
Some people have complained that this tent leaks in rain storms. This definitely isn’t a premium tent that is built to withstand extreme weather, so I would try to avoid camping with it in the rain. However, it seems to be of decent construction and there are no obvious places for water to come in. Ideally it would have a full rainfly cover.
Given the price, this tent is very good quality. Sure, the materials aren’t premium, and the tent is way too heavy to be using for hiking or backpacking, but the design makes sense, there is a lot of room, and it is easy to use.
