Edit: You can read our review of the Osprey Atmos here.
Size and Weight:
As mentioned, the Osprey Aether 70 (ad) comes in four sizes (Small, Medium, Large, and Extra Large). This bag holds 70 liters and quite a bit of weight (you will have no problem with 40-45 pounds). The bag itself has a shipping weight of 5.3 pounds, but feels pretty lightweight.
The bag is made of 210-denier double-ripstop nylon and has a 500-denier plain-weave oxford nylon bottom. There is a mesh backpanel which helps the bag to both stay fairly dry and to dry quickly when it does get wet (probably from back sweat or rain). The lightwire frame seems to be some sort of aluminum rather than pressfit. It is both high quality and lightweight.
Why It’s Awesome:
The best thing about this bag is the suspension system. The bag comes in four sizes for different people and body types, but also has adjustable straps. The main strap uses a heat forming technology so it forms to your body. The multiple straps help you keep the load tight to your body and evenly distributed. The bag really is comfortable to wear, even if you have a large load (40-45 pounds) on your back. The straps don’t dig into your body, and they stay dry due to the high quality materials they are made from.
What Could Be Better:
The only downside to this bag is the price, which is fairly high for a quality backpack. You really are paying to get one of, if not the best backpack on the market. If you want a similar bag with the Osprey name brand at a lower price, the Osprey Atmos 65 (ad) might be for you (read our review here).
Overall, the Osprey Aether (ad) is one of the absolute top backpacking or hiking backpacks on the market today. It comes from a name brand, is built from high quality materials, is lightweight, has an awesome suspension system, and is comfortable to wear. You can buy the Osprey Aether on Amazon here (ad).
